The concept of inductors

Inductors are generally composed of six parts, such as skeleton, winding, shielding cover, packaging material, magnetic core or iron core.

1, skeleton,

Skeleton generally refers to a support for winding a coil. The form is different in large and small inductors. Some large volume of fixed inductors or adjustable inductors (such as oscillating coils, flow-blocking coils, etc.), most of them are enameled wire (or gauze wire) around the skeleton, and then the magnetic core or copper core, iron core into the inner cavity of the skeleton, in order to improve its inductance.

The skeleton is usually made of plastic, bakelite, ceramic, according to the actual needs can be made into different shapes. Small inductors (such as color code inductors) typically do not use a skeleton, but instead wrap enameled wire directly around the core. Hollow inductors (also known as boxed coils or hollow coils, often used in high frequency circuits) do not use magnetic cores, skeletons and shields, etc. Instead, they are first wound on the mold and then removed from the mold, and the coils are separated from each other by a certain distance.

2, winding

Winding refers to a group of coils with specified functions, which is the basic component of an inductor. The windings are single and multilayer. The single-layer winding also has two forms: close winding (winding conductors one by one) and inter-winding (winding conductors in each circle are separated by a certain distance). The multilayer winding has many kinds of winding methods, such as layering flat winding, random winding and honeycomb winding.

3. Magnetic core and magnetic bar

The magnetic core and the magnetic rod generally use nickel zinc ferrite (NX series) or manganese zinc ferrite (MX series) and other materials, it has "work" shape, column shape, cap shape, "E" shape, pot shape and other shapes.

4, core

Core materials mainly include silicon steel sheet, permo alloy and so on, and their shape is mostly "E" type.

5. Shielding cover

In order to prevent the magnetic field generated by some inductors from affecting the normal operation of other circuits and components, metal screen covers (such as oscillating coils of semiconductor radios, etc.) are added. The inductor with a shield will increase the coil loss and reduce the Q value.

6. Packaging materials

Some inductors (such as color code inductors, color ring inductors, etc.) after winding, the coil and core are sealed with packaging material. Packaging materials are made of plastic or epoxy resin.

Characteristics of inductors

Inductors have the property of blocking the passage of alternating current while allowing the passage of direct current. The resistance of the DC signal passing through the coil is that the resistance drop of the wire itself is very small; When the AC signal through the coil, both ends of the coil will produce self-induced electromotive force, the direction of the self-induced electromotive force and the direction of the applied voltage is opposite, blocking the AC through, so the characteristics of the inductor is dc, ac resistance, the higher the frequency, the greater the coil impedance. Inductors often work with capacitors in circuits to form LC filters, LC oscillators, etc. In addition, people also use the characteristics of inductance, the manufacture of choke coils, transformers, relays and so on.

Direct current:

refers to the inductor on the DC path off state, if the resistance of the inductor coil is not considered, then the direct current can be "unimpeded" through the inductor, for DC, the resistance of the coil itself is very small hindering effect on DC, so it is often ignored in circuit analysis.

The application prospect of inductor
